Allied Public Risk, LLC, an exclusive underwriting manager of customized products for public entities, seeks an Underwriting Director to join its public entity underwriting team.
This is a remote position. Job Summary:
The Underwriting Director will specialize in first dollar package products for municipalities with populations under 100,000.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee production, underwriting, and profitability of book of business (new business and renewals) as to meet or exceed annual production and profitability targets;
- Accountable for reviewing all new business submissions to verify that the risk qualifies, that all required underwriting documentation has been obtained, and that appropriate pricing has been determined;
- Participate in new business development in accordance with the first dollar group's business plan;
- Serve as a resource to all team members with respect to the best way to address complex problems and/or issues;
- Achieve new business hit ratio and retention ratio goals;
- Provide technical training to new underwriting team members to ensure that all risks conform to APR underwriting guidelines and file documentation requirements;
- Issue error free policies and endorsements. Review and analyze complex policies;
- Establish, maintain and enhance relationships with all production sources as assigned to ensure client retention and foster strategic alliances;
- Establish and maintain strong carrier relationships to ensure their confidence in your underwriting skills;
- Participate in enhancing APR's profile in the Public Entity market segment, including scheduling and participating in broker marketing calls, and attending conventions;
- Establish and maintain an interactive relationship with the Claims Handlers. Be a solid resource on larger losses;
- Identify opportunities for product expansion/enhancement to ensure account acquisition and retention and ongoing vitality/competitiveness of the product;
- Meet performance standards for responsiveness, quote, and policy issuance;
- Become a subject matter expert regarding primary public entity coverage and emerging issues in the public entity segment.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Solid computer skills and ability to independently use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, etc.);
- Strong negotiation skills combined with the ability to close new business opportunities;
- Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain solid business relationships;
- Flexibility for extensive work hours during the peak business periods;
- Flexibility for 0%-15% business travel.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree, ideally in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or similar major;
- CPCU or ARM designation preferred;
- 5 or more years property and casualty insurance underwriting experience required, with some experience in Public Entity related segment.
Pay Range: 85,000.00-110,000.00 USD Annual
